Habits

Being the last day of 2007 I’ve noticed that there is lots of blogging activity surrounding the past twelve months and wrap ups etc etc – and being one to like not missing out on things………….

2007 has been an amazing year for us – I have achieved a lot in my work and I feel like I am at the point now where I am ready to leap off the edge and do the things I feel like I am meant to be doing – it is time to get out of this career that I have been babysitting and get into the one I was destined for. But I appreciate the fact that I have had to go through everything I have done so far in order to get to this point – YAY !

Much of the year was consumed by our wedding – which was perfect and amazing – YAY! I lost 5 kilos and have managed to stay under 70kg – which is my upper limit (although for the past 3 years I have been over it) – YAY!

I have learnt (Finally) to cope with and manage my emotions and I have begun to learn better communication skills – YAY!

There are probably lots of other things as well but I can’t remember them right now.

So………

What I haven’t done is manage to form good habits and that is going to be my focus for 2008.

I have realised that I work better when I have a strong routine – but I get into one and then everything starts to go smoothly and I let it all go and then everything goes back to the way it was before. So I am going to focus on creating good habits for myself in 2008.  These include:

  • Eating and loving healthy food – learning the difference between everyday food and sometimes foods. Menu planning and lunch making and breakfast eating. Learning to eat when and only when I am hungry.
  • Doing 30 minutes of exercise each day because I want to not because I feel like I have to. Exercising because it is good for me not to lose weight. Doing more if I feel like doing more and going for a walk if that is all I feel like doing.
  • Creating a daily routine – especially before I end each day. Organising my clothes for work each day, making sure the kitchen is tidy and the dishes are done and cleaning my teeth really well (including floss) (I know it’s gross but I am really bad at remembering)
  • Cleaning the house every Saturday morning and not organising activities during this time – it will be set aside in my diary for house cleaning.

I know that they are all really basic things but they are important enough that they need to become habits.

I found this article and I thought it was interesting so I’ll start with that.

I also thought that I would attempt to do the Photo a  Day challenge. Because if anything will become a habit – that will!

What is a habit?

A habit is a re-current , often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition .

This is how habits seem to happen:

Triggers can come from our environment or inside ourselves.

This is how habits actually happen:
