What training did I do today?
None! Today was a rest day.
How am I feeling today?
I have been a little tired and very sore all day today. My legs have DOMS which was to be expected and one of my toes is quite sore. I am riding tomorrow so no impact to make it worse which is good. I was tired to the point of grumpy at around the lunch time point but I picked up in the evening and I’m not really sure why.
Interestingly, despite all the muscle aches etc I am feeling exceedingly resourceful today – like I can achieve anything. I also feel like I have lots of clarity in my head space and that I am on top of things entirely – training and nutrition wise. I am not focusing at all on the weight side of things and this is really helpful to me – I think that part of the reason I lost the focus for the event I was training for was because I got so focused on whether or not those little numbers went down every day. I know that if I eat to plan and train to plan – as I was before – the weight will come off – but really – as long as I am fit enough and have enough energy to run and complete my training goals then it doesn’t matter what I weigh. On the uni front I am not quite on top of things – partly because I spend too long blogging. I need to turn my focus this week to the work that I need to do for uni – I have 2 assignments due on Friday week.
This resourcefulness leaves me really wanting to eat the best, most nourishing foods I possibly can – because I know they support my training and recovery.
What have I done planning wise today?
Today I went to the running shop and bought some GU gels to try next Sunday on my run. If I am going to do a marathon then I need to start figuring out the nutrition side of things early. I did a little bit of research last night and I am going to start off by having one gel after the first hour and then one every half hour – so 2 gels on a two hour run. I going to do some more research into post run recovery - apparently a small low fat chocolate milk is a good choice.
The other thing I am looking into is a magnesium supplement – I have been getting really crampy of late – but I need to do a bit more research when I have the time. Most likely when I am on holidays after the half marathon.
I also have spent a little bit of time today looking ahead at the structure of my training for the marathon (if I do it) – it does seem as though I could manage the level of training involved but only if I don’t get injured. The level of training I am doing at the moment is at about the right level so that is a plus.
So! now that I am feeling good – it is time to go to bed!
Night all!
